Compliance Isn’t Optional And Mistakes Are Costly

Fines

Roadside fines for drivers’ hours breaches, missing records, or vehicle defects can quickly add up, hitting both the driver and the operator financially.Prohibitions

Prohibitions

Vehicles can be stopped and taken off the road immediately if defects or compliance failures are found — causing disruption, missed jobs, and reputational damage.

Public Inquiry

Ongoing issues or serious breaches can lead to a hearing with the Traffic Commissioner, where your entire operation is scrutinised.

Licence revoked

In the worst cases, your Operator Licence can be suspended or revoked, stopping your business from operating altogether.

Running a transport operation means staying on top of driver hours, vehicle maintenance, record-keeping, and ever-changing DVSA expectations. It’s not just about keeping trucks on the road — it’s about running a compliant, well-managed operation every single day. From ensuring drivers take the correct breaks and record their hours accurately, to keeping up with PMI schedules, defect reporting, MOTs, and documentation, there are multiple moving parts that all need to work together. On top of that, you must be able to evidence everything — if it’s not recorded properly, as far as the DVSA is concerned, it didn’t happen.

If something slips, the consequences are serious: fines and prohibitions at the roadside, increased OCRS scores leading to more frequent inspections, calls to Public Inquiry, and in the worst cases, the loss of your Operator Licence altogether. Even small issues, if repeated or left unmanaged, can quickly build into patterns of non-compliance that attract unwanted attention.

Most operators don’t fail because they don’t care — they fail because compliance is unclear.

Practical Transport Compliance Consultancy

We don’t just advise — we help you build systems that keep your operation compliant day-to-day.

No jargon. No overcomplication.

Real Experience. Not Just Theory.

Over 15 years in the transport industry, starting behind the wheel and progressing through operational planning into transport management and driver training. I’ve worked across a wide range of roles, from day-to-day driving and route planning to overseeing fleet operations, implementing compliance systems, supporting operators through challenges, and delivering practical, real-world training.

I’ve experienced the industry from every angle — early starts, tight schedules, last-minute changes, driver issues, vehicle problems, and the constant pressure to keep everything moving while staying compliant. I’ve been responsible for making sure vehicles are maintained properly, drivers are managed correctly, records are accurate, and systems stand up to scrutiny when it matters most.

That background gives me a practical, real-world understanding of how transport businesses actually operate — not just how they look on paper. I know what works in theory, but more importantly, I know what works in practice. I understand the balancing act between running a busy operation and meeting the standards expected by the DVSA and the Traffic Commissioner.

I also understand how quickly small issues can turn into bigger problems if they’re not managed properly. That’s why I focus on simple, effective systems that are easy to follow day to day — not overcomplicated processes that look good on paper but fail in reality.

Because I’ve been there and dealt with it firsthand, my approach is always practical, straight-talking, and focused on keeping your operation compliant, efficient, and protected.

‘I own a bus company and was very glad to find Stuart of JS Transport.

We had a DVSA Audit coming and Stuart guided us with precision to prepare for it. The audit was a

success and DVSA has not requested anything further. The condition on our licence has

been removed.

I am happy to recommend JS Transport for compliance knowledge and services.’

First Choice Wholesale

After a transport manager left us, we needed to engage someone to help us with the

management of our fleet and to ensure that we remained fully compliant with the

requirements of our Operators Licence. We met with Stuart Hazeldine from J S Transport

Solutions and were impressed with his knowledge and experience.

Stuart undertook an audit of our systems following which we appointed him to look after our compliance.

J S Transport Solutions provide us with weekly reports on all our drivers, including

infringements, and vehicle maintenance. We now store all vehicle records online so that

we have clear visibility of maintenance and testing schedules and results.

SD Transport

Stuart of JS Transport Solutions made it possible for me to attain my Operators License, I had no idea of how to go about the process and Stuart just took it out of my hands and did the whole process for me.

He kept me in the loop every step of the way and I just had to provide the information he asked for.

Stuart made a complicated and stressful task extremely easy and took all of the stress out of the situation.

As you can imagine I would highly recommend JS Transport Solutions.
